Star Trek (NG)

If you know me you've heard me talking about Star Trek. A lot. A lot, a lot. Sometimes I get weird looks about it or a dismissive shrug or, my all time favorite "how can you like Star Trek when Star Wars is sooo much better?" (This post isn't about comparing apples to oranges so I won't go there.)

I feel compelled to start this off by saying I really don't like the original series. It's horrible. I hate it. So campy it's uncomfortable and the acting... Don't get me started. I grew up watching Next Generation every day on CBS. They were reruns and I saw almost every episode a billion times, but I didn't care. Jean Luke Picard was my hero! He reminded me of my dad, in the way of being very intelligent and classical, a scholar and a gentleman in the best of ways. Deanna Troy was beautiful, Data made me laugh, William Riker was handsome, and Worf scared me a little bit.  I do distinctly remember wearing a banana clip in front of my eyes often pretending to be Geordi LaForge. I can't tell you how many objects became phasers or tricorders with my sister. (She hated playing Star Trek btw.)

The first thing I did after purchasing Netflix was watch Star Trek Next Generation. I have literally seen every episode of it now. It was quite nostalgic and campier than I remember but it was good.

I guess my one complaint looking back at all the Star Trek series is how hard they tried to make things relevant to the current decade. The hair on the women is my main complaint... Ever seen Deanna Troy's "galactic cheerleader" phase?

Well now you have...

It frightens me. That was her natural hair by the way. Did I mention it frightens me? Yes? Ok... Moving on. (I obviously couldn't have existed in the 80's) Her hair! AGH! Seriously moving on now...

For the record I don't think Dr Crusher was much better, or the evil bitch Dr of the second season. I hated her. Humans certainly didn't evolve much fashion wise in the future.

Just lil me!

So I just decided to take a break from my dance blog and focus on a personal one where I can talk about geekery, dancey-thingies, food, college from a troubled homeschoolers perspective and anything else that comes to mind.

I hope you enjoy reading my ranting and thinkings and other such nonsensical ramblings as much as I'll enjoy writing them! -Ivy
